Feb 13, 2012 - CJAA's guest speaker for the upcoming 2012 Convention is Air Force Brigadier General Dan Cherry (ret).

Gen. Cherry recently returned from Viet Nam where he befriended MiG pilot, Nguyen Hong My, a man who in 1972 was engaged with him in an intense F-4 Phantom and MiG-21 dogfight over North Vietnam.

His new book, My Enemy, My Friend, chronicles the events before and after dogfight and reunion.

Feb 11, 2012 - Another of the many activities at our upcoming convention will be an election to fill seats currently held by two retiring directors. Jack Hunter (left) and Mark Peterson (right) have served for three years and selflessly contributed their time and effort to the organization - Jack as Safety Coordinator providing insight and experience to our procedures and activities, and Mark as Vice President, and more importantly, our legislative driver in 61.57 and 8130.2 discussions with the FAA and in collaboration with EAA.

Feb 10, 2012 - If you are heading to the 2012 edition of the annual National Warbird Operator Conference in Chino next week, be sure to stop by and say hello.

Two CJAA members, Rich Hess and Doug Matthews will be presenting and leading focus groups. While the focus is on both prop and jet warbirds, there will be breakout sessions throughout the conference in which jet issues are highlighted.

Feb 8, 2012 - CJAA member and director Doug Matthews, already CJAA's FAST representative was recently elected FAST Vice-President.

FAST (Formation and Safety Team) is a worldwide, educational organization dedicated to teaching safe formation flying in restored, vintage military aircraft and civilian aircraft. CJAA is one of the sixteen signatory organizations whose mission is to support education in the restoration, maintenance and flight of their members' aircraft.

Feb 6, 2012 - AOPA is reporting a new NOAA regulation that will impact your low-level sightseeing activities. The regulations become effective Feb 27th and fines can be up to $100,000. The new sanctuary boundaries are not depicted correctly on FAA Sectional charts and may not be for some time.

Jan 28, 2012 - Arizona State University is offering 2012 CJAA Convention attendees an opportunity to participate in altitude chamber training. This six-hour session will include classroom and altitude chamber time, and is intended to help the pilot recognize hypoxia symptoms and take the appropriate emergency procedures for quick and accurate treatment.

CJAA specific flight profiles will include FL250 in daylight and FL180 at night.

Jan 20, 2012 - Last year, the FAA acknowledged errors had crept into the updated FAA Order 8130.2G, Airworthiness Certification of Aircraft and Related Products, chapter 4, section 10, and promised to remedy them. Subsequent meetings between the FAA and industry groups, including both EAA and CJAA, resulted in an 8130.2G Deviation Letter that was distributed to the FSDOs late last year.
