Less popular but still relevant Classic Jets include the Folland Gnat and Fouga CM-170 (Magister) and many, many others.

David,

It looks like Your project is progressing well. What brand of stripper are you using?

Jerry,
We've used several different kinds, with varying results. We started with D-solve, which is a more environmentally friendly (read: doesn't work as well) kind that looks and smells like Pepto-Bismol. Primarily we've been using Klean-strip Aircraft Stripper, available from your friendly neighborhood Carquest. We've also used jet stripper from O'rielly's and a couple of others that really didn't amount to much. It has been interesting to watch which areas seem to strip easily, with lots of cool bubbling, etc. and other areas don't seem to react at all. We have used a 3000 psi pressure washer for most of the stripping as well, which has worked well at getting the white/blue off, but the underlying S. A. camo has required quite a bit of scrubbing with scotch-brite and steel wool to get it loose. I'll post some more pics as soon as I can, as the plane is pretty well stripped. It'll be a few days though...work is calling. Man, I HATE having to spend the next 5 days in Cabo on the company's dime. Sure beats having to work for a living...

Stripper

Postby Jerry Parker » February 12th, 2008, 3:37 am

David,

Thanks for the info. I'm using a stripper recommended by some guys at "Leading Edge", a commercial aircraft painter. It works very well but not environmentally friendly. I'm considering trying a more friendly stripper called Formula #710 from Quest, a company just outside Ft. Worth, recommended by Carl Vernon.

Cabo? It's a tough tour but I'm sure you can tough-it-out. Hope to see you at the comvention!

Fly safe,

Alright guys, I've recovered from 5 LONG...TOUGH days in Cabo...did I mention Cindy Crawford was next door to us?

Anyways, we've been working hard on the Sabre and the T-bird. We got the new fuselage fuel pump installed in the T-bird, and now have three flights on it since installation. It's working as advertised and so far no leaks from the case or the mounting plate. I sure hope that's the LAST time we have to do that...it sucks!

We have finished stripping the exterior of the Sabre, and are now working on the speed brakes and wheel wells. After that, the fiberglass wing fairings and the tip of the vertical stab, and we're done.

Here are a few pics:
