F-86 Refurb thread

Less popular but still relevant Classic Jets include the Folland Gnat and Fouga CM-170 (Magister) and many, many others.

Looking good there David - and I have to agree - until you bring the plane out of the hangar or Kay comes up to visit - he won't see it =-)

BTW - Kay had a great time the past week - Wendover hosted the first fighter group to TDY here in about 40 years - the 124th ANG wing from Idaho sent thier A-10s to bang around on the UTTR. Of course the T-Bird HAD to give a ride or two. . . .

Again, the stripping is looking good!

Here are a few updates for you guys.

The wings are more or less done, so are the drops. We've started on the fuselage, and so far it seems to be going much s l o w e r. The fuselage still has the original South African camo paint under the white, and it is more or less inert. The stripper hardly touches it. We are using a 3000 psi pressure washer to help, but the progress is still slow. Here are some pics:

This is the "382" from the plane's South African days...a little trivia, this was the 2nd to last plane imported from there, with "383" being the last.

How it looks after you've scrubbed on it 'till your fingers are bloody...ok not really, but it took a long time...

The right wing. Some MEK, a scotchbrite pad, and a ton of elbow grease will get rid of that zinc chromate.
